A space where healing begins and transformation unfolds
The year is 2019, and our co-founder / Mum decided it was time to share the healing power of meditation with the world (or more precisely, Highwood Village). Meditation had been a lifeline for her, helping her manage anxiety during my sister Hopes battle with cancer, and so, the candlelit guided meditation evenings were born.
They took off quickly. Before long, there was demand for more venues and even online classes. Highwood and beyond fell in love with Tracy’s unique scripts.
Hope, the cancer thriver I just mentioned (my sister), followed her dream of becoming a yoga teacher and embarked on her learning journey. Meanwhile, Nancy, the other daughter, me (hi!) put on my business hat. The vision was clear: a permanent premises for own own wellness sanctuary for people from all walks of life.
We dreamed of vast countryside land, high ceilings, and natural light streaming through whitewashed walls. There would be a cosy cafe for coffee catch-ups before Hope’s yoga classes, a sauna and ice plunge for detox seekers, and a meditation space with soft floor beds for deep relaxation. Sounds good, right?
But life had other plans.
Hope’s cancer took a dark turn, and she was sent to America for treatment, husband and family in tow. What followed was a rollercoaster of devastating lows and uplifting highs, lots of trauma, whiplash and ALOT of resilience. Yet after 18 months, an improved Hope returns home to the UK.
Meanwhile, I (Nancy, hi again!) had my second baby and boy oh boy his arrival changed everything. He was born with a congenital virus, making it essential to prioritise a clean, healthy lifestyle to keep his immune system strong and ward off potential complications. Well I learned from the best didn’t I! Hope, the cancer thriver, who had every health-boosting trick up her sleeve.
And so, with that Honey + Spice was born, a platform dedicated to healthy eating, holistic living and all that jazz.
The next chapter? Day retreats. These events blossomed into beautiful gatherings that have hosted over 200 people, creating a community of like-minded souls on journeys of self-discovery and self-care.
Now for the name! We couldn’t keep going around being called three separate things, it’s all a little bit confusing isn’t it?
Hope and I found the answer during some of her darkest days in Santa Monica. Despite the weight of uncertainty, we often talked about our dream of opening our wellness sanctuary. We promised ourselves that Some September in the future it’ll happen.
And just like that, Some September was born.
Whilst the venue is yet to be, the dream is still alive and who knows what might be around the corner.
